  2. Welcome to COMTRAC vers 1.1, the shareware company tracker.  
  3. Plan on pressing the HELP (F1) key while running COMTRAC and 
  4. reading COMTRAC.DOC.

  6. You have my permission and encouragement to copy this program and

  38. INSTALLATION NOTES
  39.  
  40.     HARD DISK USERS
  41.         Simply create a subdirectory on your hard disk, call it "\comtrac".
  42.         Copy all the files into "\comtrac".  Type in "co" to run.
  43.  
  44.     FLOPPY USERS
  45.         You can simply run COMTRAC from one floppy.  Type in "co" to run.
  46.  
  47.     NOTE:
  48.         If the HELP screens do not come up, make sure that "FILES=20" is 
  49.         set in your "config.sys" file.  If you don't know what a 
  50.         "config.sys" file is, consult your DOS manual or local DOS guru.

  52.         If you don't have a "true" IBM compatible and the intro screen
  53.         doesn't appear.  Try to reboot your system and enter
  54.         "SET BIOS=1" at the DOS prompt before running COMTRAC.

  56. FEATURES:

  58.      Mail/merge functions - create form letters, rolodex cards, envelopes,
  59.         one-up mailing labels with an ASCII text editor or using the ASCII text
  60.         facility of your favorite word processor.
  61.  
  62.      Autodial - COMTRAC will dial the phone for you if you have a modem 
  63.         connected to a phone handset. 
  64.  
  65.      Phone call logging - COMTRAC will keep a history of the last 15 calls
  66.         made to a contact at the company, allowing you to track the 
  67.         progress of telephone contacts.
  68.  
  69.      Phone call time logging - a timer comes up during phone calls if you
  70.         need to keep track of time spent on the phone.
  71.  
  72.      Letter/correspondence logging - keeps a log of letters/correspondence
  73.         sent and received to the company.  Form letters are automatically
  74.         recorded.

  76.      Contact appointment dates - COMTRAC will keep track of the 15
  77.         appointment dates, reminders or call backs.

  79.      Quick access of companies - simply enter the first few characters of
  80.         the company name to call it up.

  82.      On-line help - Extensive context sensitive help is available at all
  83.         input prompts.

  134. DO's and DONT'S

  137.     Be sure to make regular backups of the data files. If you don't 
  138.     know how to make backups, refer to the BACKUP program in your 
  139.     DOS documentation.
  140.  
  141.     Do NOT exit COMTRAC by shutting off the power.  Please exit the program
  142.     "gracefully" by pressing ESC until the 'Exit Menu?' question comes up.
  143.  
  144.     Do NOT modify the help file.  If you do, COMTRAC will become confused
  145.     when asked for help.  Incorrect help is worse than no help at all.
  146.  
  147.     Do have fun with the program.  Most questions can be answered by trying
  148.     in out on the system.

  173.     The calendar generating program, COMCAL, combines all 
  174.     REMINDERS for all contacts in a file system and prints
  175.     them neatly under a monthly calendar suitable for posting.

  177.     In addition to COMTRAC, I have also developed the following

  180.     CONTACT -  Contact tracking system very similar to COMTRAC
  181.                except the emphasis is on keeping track of people
  182.                instead of companies, products etc.

  188.     PHONEMSG - Phone message TSR for secretaries.  Displays a popup
  189.                window similar to the "While You Were Out" message
  190.                pads.  Allows the later retrieval of messages for
  191.                each individual.  $10 donation

  193.     VMSYS    - Vehicle maintenance system.  Keeps track of gas
  194.                receipts, oil changes and repairs.  Data is presented
  195.                in a 13 month bar chart format and scheduled 
  196.                services are "predicted" based on average miles
  197.                driven per day.  $35 registration fee

  199.     VMSYS+   - Vehicle maintenance system professional .  Similar to 
  200.                VMSYS but additionally records mileage logs for tax 
  201.                purposes.  A working demo will appear on the bulletin 
  202.                boards shortly. Price not set.
